Big Pat's Creek to Starling's Gap (Return)

An 18.3 k medium return walk located within the Yarra State Forest just east of Warburton. The walk commences at Big Pat’s Creek, Melway Map X912 T3, and continues up to Starling’s Gap. This is a section of the “Walk into History” walk from Big Pat’s Creek to Powelltown.

The walk follows timber tramways built between 1908-1916 to service saw mills at Starling’s Gap.

There is still evidence of the tram tracks and two former saw mill sites.

Initially the walk follows Big Pat’s Creek before climbing steadily from the valley floor through dense forest to reach Starlings Gap.

Total climbing – 758 m over 9 km. Considering the total distance walkers will need to maintain a steady pace.

Bring walking poles (strongly recommended), morning tea, lunch and water.

It should be noted that weather conditions can change rapidly in the area and wet weather gear should also be considered.

Meet at the Eltham Little Theatre at 8.00am for an 8.15am start.

Will be car pooling. Please indicate if you are prepared to drive.

The travel distance to the start of the walk is approx. 70km.
