Walk to the summit of Mt St Leonards from Donnellyʻs Weir car park and return. A long climb occasionally quite steep this is a challenging walk. In good weather long views from the summit viewing tower back to Melbourne and beyond. Walk follows the eastern edge of the Yarra Ranges National Park north of Healesville.

A 14.00 k medium circuit walk located in the Toolangi State Forest Melway ref. X910 R11. 

The walk starts at the Wirrawilla Rainforest Board Walk. The boardwalk is set amid a very beautiful rainforest under the canopy of myrtle beech, sassafras, blackwood and tree ferns. Lyrebirds, platypus and small birds are typically present.

Continuing on up the Tanglefoot Track the trail climbs to meet the Monda Track and then up to the summit of Mount St. Leonard. At 1027 mts this is the highest point in the area.

On a clear day the observation tower provides extensive views across the eastern areas of Melbourne.

The walk then descends steeply down for 500 mts before finally meeting with the Quarry Road track for the return to the start.

Bring walking poles (strongly recommended), morning tea, lunch and water.

It should be noted that weather conditions can change rapidly in the area and wet weather gear should also be considered.

Meet at the Eltham Little Theatre at 8.00 am for an 8.15 start.

Will be car pooling. Please indicate if you are prepared to drive.

The travel distance to the start of the walk is approx. 55 km.

An 18.3 k medium return walk located within the Yarra State Forest just east of Warburton. The walk commences at Big Pat’s Creek, Melway Map X912 T3, and continues up to Starling’s Gap. This is a section of the “Walk into History” walk from Big Pat’s Creek to Powelltown.

The walk follows timber tramways built between 1908-1916 to service saw mills at Starling’s Gap.

There is still evidence of the tram tracks and two former saw mill sites.

Initially the walk follows Big Pat’s Creek before climbing steadily from the valley floor through dense forest to reach Starlings Gap.

Total climbing – 758 m over 9 km. Considering the total distance walkers will need to maintain a steady pace.

Bring walking poles (strongly recommended), morning tea, lunch and water.

It should be noted that weather conditions can change rapidly in the area and wet weather gear should also be considered.

This multi-feature walk which takes us to the highest point in Portarlington; from here we can see the flora and fauna reserve below us were the old race course and cross-country track is now disused.

The vista includes views to the You Yangs, from Melbourne to Geelong and we can see the path of the buoys of the Hopetown channel leading to Geelong.

We will be walking on hard paths, sand, gravel roads past the olive plantations and descending to the Point Richards flora and fauna reserve returning to the starting point via the beach.

 

Travel: Train times and carriage TBA - Train to Southern Cross then a short walk past Marvel Stadium, down the stairs to Port Ferry terminal.

Dockland to Portarlington Departs 9.30am.  Portarlington to Docklands Departs 3.45pm

The DJJs (Darylene, Julie & Janice) are offering a base camp in Marysville with a Friday afternoon walk for those who can make it, followed by a longer walk at Lake Mountain on Saturday and another Sunday walk near Marysville.

Cabins have been reserved at Marysville caravan park - 59633247. If you are planning to come then please look at who else has booked, put a cabin of 2 or 3 people together and then call to book your accommodation. You will be asked for a deposit of 1 night. This is $135 for 2 people and $155 for 3 people. Linen and towels are supplied. Please let them know you are from Diamond Valley Bushwalking group when you call so that you get one of the resevered cabins.

The caravan park will be our meeting place for all walks.
