Scenic Rim Lerderderg Gorge, car shuffle version

Scenic Rim is a strenuous 14km hard grade walk that takes you through some of the more remote areas of the Gorge.  We’ll be doing this walk as a car shuffle so it’s a little different and 2km shorter than the circuit walk that you can find on the internet. Our walk includes 1 river crossing at the Diversion Weir which could be a dry crossing or calf deep depending on rainfall so I recommend bringing river crossing shoes and walking poles will also be useful on various sections of this walk.  We’ll go in a clockwise direction so we can go down Long Point track, 2.4km, following the rocky ridge line to the river, some rock scrambling is required for the last 15 meters of the descend to the river. We cross the river now and head up the concrete fish ladder (easy) to the weir wall where metal stairs take us over the wall and we continue up the access road for the final section of the walk to find the cars at Hornell Lane and transfer back to the start and the remaining cars.

This is a great walk for experienced hikers that tests your bushwalking skills and endurance, walking in remote terrain with fantastic panoramic views of the Gorge.  As this is a car shuffle with limited parking, numbers will be limited to suit but on a positive note doing this as a car shuffle means we cut out the very eroded, steep descent down Link 1 and we miss the seriously steep and challenging climb up Spur Track.

This is a DUAL CLUB walk with Koonung.
